Effect and application
aspha-min® contains approx. 20% crystallized water by weight. When injected into asphalt mixing operations, the water is released as steam thereby creating an asphalt foam. This controlled foaming effect leads to an increase in the binder volume, keeping the asphalt mixture supple and workable even at low temperatures. As the crystallized water is released gradually, the described effect is sustained for a relatively long period, until the mixture cools below 100 °C. The bituminous mix, so to speak, lives on. As the asphalt and the binder cool off, it regains its original properties. With the application of aspha-min® only steam is emitted. What remains in the asphalt is some kind of synthetic sand.
The admixture of aspha-min® is simple and recommended to be carried out at the same time or shortly before the binder, in a quantity of 0.3% by weight. In principle, any metering system is suitable which can handle such small batches, such as fibre feeding devices for mastic asphalt. Meanwhile, there are several types of simple stationary and mobile dosage devices. We will gladly advise you about individualised solutions.
aspha-min® can be used with all types of road bitumen (standard bitumen, polymer bitumen and such composites). Manufacture of asphalt mixes with aspha-min® does not require an extension of the mixing time, and therefore ensures full efficiency of the asphalt mixing plant. As aspha-min® is delivered in big bags on Euro pallets or as bulk in silo trucks, it is easy to handle and store. aspha-min® withstands temperature fluctuations between -15 °C and +70 °C without material deteriorations. This means no extra investment in costly bitumen tanks, only dry storage is needed.
