Practical Tips

Storage, feeding, and Dosage

Feeding

The handling and feeding of aspha-min® at the asphalt plant is easy:

  • Any conventional feeder system (e.g. pneumatic conveyors, disc feeders, screw conveyors) can be used.
  • When using pneumatic conveyors, ensure the leak-tightness of the piping to avoid any loss.
  • Avoid excess heat (> 70 °C) or moisture during in-plant feeding.
  • If necessary, check if any sensors need to be adjusted to account for the aggregate gradation of aspha-min®.

We are happy to get you in touch with reference clients whose feeding systems are suited for aspha-min®. Further than that, we are happy to provide you with product samples to check the compatibility of your current feeding, dosage, and measuring systems with aspha-min®.

For manual in-plant feeding, we offer aspha-min® in meltable bags of 3 kg each.

Dosage

The right timing and dosage are important to guarantee the best performance of aspha-min®.

  • Base course construction requires a dosage of 2 kg (0,2%) aspha-min® per 1.000 kg asphalt mix. Binder course and wearing course construction requires a dosage of 3 kg (0,3%) aspha-min® per 1.000 kg asphalt mix.
  • Due to its properties, pre-mixing aspha-min® with bitumen is not possible.
  • Please always add aspha-min® directly into the mixer.
  • Please add aspha-min® at the same time as the asphalt binder (bitumen)
  • If the asphalt plant does not allow for simulatenous feeding, please add aspha-min® after the asphalt binder and account for the standard wet mixing time.
  • Please avoid any dry mixing after the addition of aspha-min®.

When mixing warm mix asphalt, please always ensure that the asphalt plant's exhaust gas temperature does not drop below the dew point. This may result in sulfor precipitation or may introduce moisture into the plant's filtration system. Please contact the manufacturer of your asphalt plant directly for a detailed consultation and to find out if it might require any modifications.

Storage

aspha-min® is easy to store. Please note the following storage instructions:

  • No changes will occur to the product at temperatures between -15 und 70 °C.
  • Store aspha-min® in a dry and ideally enclosed environment.
  • Avoid humidity and temperatures above 70 °C during temporary storing and processing at the asphalt plant.
