Advantages of warm mix asphalt

  • Warm mix asphalt lowers emissions during mixing at the asphalt plant and during the laying at the construction site . This means it plays a crucial role in not exceeding emission rate limits for vapors and aerosols from bitumen and thus complying with occupations safety regulations.
  • The lower asphalt laying temperature allows for road works to be completed more swiftly and for roads to be (re-)opened to traffic sooner.
  • The lower mixing and laying temperature reduces the thermal aging of bitumen and other aggregates in the asphalt mix, thus protecting against asphalt embrittlement and maintaining its performance and durability.

aspha-min® is a mineral additive for the production of both warm mix asphalt (WMA) and hot mix asphalt (HMA). OIn warm mix asphalt, it reduces the mixing and/or  laying temperature as well as emissions and enhances both compactability and workability. In hot mix asphalt (HMA), it leads to a reduction in viscosity and helps to handle challenging paving situations.

Effect

aspha-min® is a finely granulated additive for the use in asphalt mix. As a synthetic zeolite, it contains water of crystallization, which is gradually released when heated. The process creates micropores in the binder in order to temporarily increase its volume and reduce its viscosity for improved workability - even at lower temperatures.
