Occupational safety and environmental protection
Asphalt laying with occupational safety in mind
For decades, highway workers were portrayed shrouded in dust and heavy fumes. And while regulations for the quality and performance of asphalt laying have continously improved, paving crews and construction site personel are still exposed to vapors and aerosoles from bitumen. We believe it's paramount to work towards reducing these to the lowest possible minimum and comply with occupational safety regulations in asphalt road construction.
Safely comply with exposure limits
aspha-min® reduces the mixing and laying temperatures of asphalt mixtures which not only improves workability and compactability, but also significantly reduces vapors and aerosols from bitumen. Studies show that reducing the temperature of the asphalt mix by approximately 30 °C reduces the emission of vapors and aerosols from bitumen by about 75%. Consequently, construction site personel (as well as nearby residents and bypassers) are also exposed to fewer odors during laying.
As a result, warm mix asphalt with aspha-min® will play a crucial role in complying with new occupational safety regulations for bitumen vapors and aerosols. When used in combination with a vacuum-equipped laying machine, warm mix asphalt with aspha-min® will be a preferred method for not exceeding occupational exposure limits and with more than 30 years of experience with warm mix asphalt, we would be happy to advise you.
