aspha-min® contains rd. 20% crystallized water. For its direct introduction into the mixing process, the water is being released and vapourised thus creating micro pores in the binder. This controlled foaming effect leads to an increase in the binder volume, keeping the asphalt mixture supple and workable even at low temperatures. As the crystallized water is being released gradually, the effect sustains for a longer period and comes to an end at around 100 °C in the mix. As the binder cools down, it regains its original properties. With the application of aspha-min®, vapour is the only additional emission. Changes to the ring-and-ball-value (RB) or any other properties (PG etc.) of either binder or mix do not occur.
Feeding aspha-min® into the mixer is simple and recommended at about the time of injecting the binder, at only 0.3% by weight. Generally speaking, any metering system that handles such small batches, eg. fibre feeding devices for mastic asphalt, is suitable for aspha-min®. Of course, we will gladly advise you about individual solutions.
aspha-min® is compatible to all types of road bitumen (standard bitumen, polymer bitumen and such composites). The manufacture of asphalt mixes with aspha-min® does not require an extension of the mixing time, and therefore ensures full capacity of the asphalt mixing plant.
As aspha-min® is delivered in big bags on pallets or in melting bags of 3 kg each, it is easy to handle and store. aspha-min® withstands fluctuations between -15 °C and +70 °C without material deteriorations. This means no extra investment in costly bitumen tanks - only dry storage is needed.
aspha-min® is a finely granulated, free flowing additive with an average particle size of 0.35 mm.
